Whole Home Battery Backup
Whole-home backup
Backup power sized to your home — not a guess
Whole-home backup
- 10–30+ kWh typical capacity
- Automatic, near-seamless transfer
- 6,000+ cycle LiFePO4
How long will your home run?
Run-time is capacity divided by what you actually draw. These are indicative figures — we size from your measured load profile and the backup hours you want.
| Load scenario | Typical draw | On 10 kWh | On 20 kWh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials only (lights, fridge, comms) | ~0.8 kW | ~12 h | ~25 h |
| Home office + essentials | ~2.0 kW | ~5 h | ~10 h |
| Whole home including HVAC | ~5.0 kW | ~2 h | ~4 h |
Indicative only — HVAC start surge and your real duty cycle change the result. We model it before quoting.
What’s in a whole-home backup system
LiFePO4 bank
Safe chemistry, 6,000+ cycles, indoor or outdoor enclosures.
Hybrid inverter
Charges from grid or PV and inverts to household AC.
Transfer switch
Automatic, near-seamless changeover when the grid drops.
Monitoring
State of charge, load and history in one view.
Overview
Whole-home battery backup pairs a LiFePO4 bank with an automatic transfer switch and a hybrid or backup inverter so that when the grid drops, your home switches to battery within moments. EGbatt sizes the system from your critical and whole-home loads, the backup hours you want, and whether the array refills it during the outage. The honest trade-off: backing up everything (including HVAC) costs more capacity and a larger inverter than critical-loads-only; we help you decide based on the loads that actually matter to you. Every system is documented for safe install and, where required, inspection.
Typical applications
- Outage resilience: Lights, fridge, comms.
- Medical / home office: Critical loads.
- HVAC backup: Larger system.
- Storm-prone areas: Multi-day with PV.

How to specify & buying guide
- Decide critical vs whole-home first — it sets inverter size and capacity.
- Size from the loads and backup hours you need, not a round number.
- Confirm the transfer switch and inverter are rated for the loads (HVAC surges).
- Get certification docs if your AHJ requires them.
How EGbatt builds it
Solutions are where product lines meet an application — backup, off-grid, peak shaving or telecom. We specify the cell chemistry, capacity, inverter and controls as one system, then document the design so your team can deploy and service it.
Certifications & compliance
- UN38.3 — Mandatory lithium battery transport test (altitude, thermal, vibration, shock, external short). Required for any cross-border shipment.
- IEC62619 — International safety standard for industrial Li-ion cells and batteries; expected by EU and most APAC buyers.
- UL1973 — North American safety standard for stationary lithium battery systems.
- UL9540A — Fire safety test method for ESS installations; often required by US authorities having jurisdiction.
- CE — EU declaration of conformity for the applicable directives.
- IP65 — Dust-tight and low-pressure water-jet resistant — suitable for outdoor enclosures.
Frequently asked questions
Whole home or critical loads?
Whole-home costs more capacity and a bigger inverter; we size from what matters to you.
How long will it last?
From capacity ÷ load; PV during the outage extends it.
Will HVAC run?
If the inverter and capacity cover the start surge, yes — size accordingly.
Is it safe indoors?
LiFePO4 is the safe chemistry; enclosures are IP65 and documented to standard.
