Overview
Sodium-ion batteries use sodium instead of lithium, which removes the cobalt and much of the cost and supply-risk exposure of lithium cells. They tolerate cold better than LFP and avoid the thermal-runaway nerves of NMC, at the cost of lower energy density and a still-maturing cycle-life dataset. For stationary storage — especially balanced, temperature-managed sites — sodium-ion is an increasingly sensible choice.
