On January 16, Tafel’s first new energy industry summit and new product launch conference was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. At the meeting, Tafel released two new battery products, including a ternary square aluminum core with an energy density of 215Wh/kg and a cycle life of 3,000 cycles, which is at the leading level in the industry. In addition, Tafel also revealed the company’s technological progress in high-nickel batteries, silicon-based batteries, solid-state batteries and sulfur lithium batteries.
The summit gathered experts, scholars, research institutions and business representatives from the fields of new energy vehicles, power batteries, upstream materials and equipment manufacturing. Based on the new policy of China’s new energy vehicles in 2018, the participants comprehensively analyzed the future development trend from the perspectives of policy, industry, market and technology, which has very important guiding significance for the whole industry.
Problems and Solutions for High Energy Density Materials
Experts from China Automobile Research Institute, Beijing Institute of Technology, Tafel, Hunan Shanshan, Huasheng Power and many other institutions, universities and enterprises gave a wonderful speech at the meeting. Among them, Jiang Bin, director of research and development of Tafel New Energy Technology, gave a report titled “Problems and Solutions for High Energy Density Materials”. According to him, Tafel’s battery technology has five product specifications: high safety, high energy density, low temperature discharge, fast charge and long life. The company’s products take safety as the first criterion and have made more than 200 designs in battery safety. In terms of high energy density, there are already 215Wh/kg mass production products, and 300Wh/kg concept products are also in the laboratory stage; In terms of long life, there are already mass production products with a charging frequency of 5,000 or more and a calendar life of more than 10 years.
Tafel’s technical progress
He also introduced Tafel’s technical progress in high-nickel batteries, silicon-based batteries, solid-state batteries, and sulfur lithium batteries. He believes that the specific capacity and normal temperature cycle performance of high nickel positive electrode 811 Material is not the main bottleneck restricting its application, but it is still a short plate compared with 622 or 523 in high temperature gas production and safety; high expansion in silicon based negative electrode prominent problem at present. Tafel’s current work focuses on the regulation of particle size and morphology, the selection and optimization of coating process, and the composite mode of graphite. In solid-state batteries, Tafel is polymerized in situ. The composite inorganic material significantly improves the ionic conductivity and performance of the solid electrolyte. In the lithium-sulfur battery, the lithium sulfur cathode material prepared by using cheap raw materials has a sulfur storage content of more than 60% and a capacity of nearly 1500mAh/g. The cycle performance is good.
On the same day, at the highlight of the summit, Tafel’s new product launch, Tafel’s chairman, Huijin Long, released two annual heavy new products: one is the 135Ah ternary for the passenger car and special vehicle market. The square aluminum shell has an energy density of up to 215Wh/kg and a cycle life of up to 3,000 cycles. The second is the lithium iron phosphate 115Ah battery for the energy storage and special vehicle market and the cycle life can reach 10,000 times.
